thrifty threads: Dior silk scarf

I found this scarf in an antique shop and purchased it for twelve dollars! Guess what I realized upon check out? It's by Christian Dior! I loved the seventies print and color so much that I hadn't even noticed the tiny emblem on the bottom corner. The sweet woman working the register gently nudged me and pointed to the faded letters and said, "what a find!" Indeed! "How will you wear it?", she asked. Well, let me tell you. Here are six of my favorite ways to wear silk scarves:
Hair:
1. Knotted headband: I love this as an alternative to the classic scarf around the head.
2. Hippie headband: Embracing the seventies vibe, this works so well with the print and color.
Note: This scarf is quite large, but if you can find one thats a bit smaller, It looks lovely braided into the hair as well.
Waist:
3. Simple side knot: I don't generally wear scarves as belts, but I love this variation. Feed the scarf through the first two loops only and secure with a simple side knot
4. Bow: feed the scarf through the first two loops as before but secure with a big bow up front for a more girly look.
Note: This trick works great if you're using a scarf that isn't quite long enough to fit around your entire waist.
Purse:
5. Decorative: This look works best with satchels. Loop the scarf through the top flap and secure on top to dress up a simple leather purse.
6. Functional: Tuck in the straps and use the scarf as the handle to change the look of the bag completely.

noooo- so typical. that necklace is the most bad ass thing i've seen all day! thanks for your prompt response though :)

thanks for the link. judging by the $1500-$2500 price tag the ebay sellers are asking, looks like it makes that necklace even more of a prized possession! i won't be making that splurge, but i'll be looking for something similar. thanks again! (by the way, if you're into fashion and music posts definitely stop by again or become a follower. i do one of each a day! i'll be staying tuned for all your future posts! really enjoy your stuff from what i've seen so far!) :)

Wow, what a great find! I never get so lucky, but a friend of mine bought a cluctch last year for somewhat around 7 dollars and it turned out to be a Roberto Cavalli.
I had never thought of adding a scarf to a purse to make it look like this. Thank you for the tip.

What an amazing find! I love the colours and pattern so much. Frankly, am a little bit (just a tiny bit) jealous... ;) I love scarves very much, it's one of those things I can't resist.
I wear mine as nature/fashion intended, but also as a belt or on my bag similar to your versions 2 and 3. :)

#5 and #1 are great. I love your inventive ideas. I wore a scarf as a necklace wrapped for awhile and got lots of comments on it. Nice to dig it out again.

Thanks for the advice, I keep buying second hand scarves as I'm so drawn to colours and patterns, and really only wear them at my neck.
